How long have you been a teacher?

This is my second year of teaching. I graduated from SUNY Brockport with a major in History. I am certified to teach Secondary Education (grades 5-12), along with Special Education. Throughout college, I have completed multiple observations and one student teaching experience. I have observed classrooms at Greece Central School District, along with two charter schools. My student teaching experience was at Greece Odyssey.

What is your philosophy as a teacher?

My teaching philosophy is that as a teacher, I should teach my students how to learn. To be independent thinkers and learners. I want to teach my students the skills that they need to succeed, and I believe every student can obtain those skills with practice and dedication. Education should not be so content focused and it should not be a one-size fits all institution. I want to incorporoate multiple learning styles and make use of differentiation in my classroom.

What motivates you to be at Vertus? (what is your “why?")

As a Haitian American woman, I am motivated by my family and my people. My fathers family came here from Haiti when he was 22 years old. I am blessed to be in this country and I have been blessed with the opportunities that got me to this point in my career. I want to inspire and motivate my students to succeed. I want to help the community of Rochester, and this is my way of helping. I teach because teachers have a direct and personal connection to the community. And I want to be there for the kids who might need a positive role model.

Who are you outside of Vertus?

I am a simple young woman. As I've grown and gotten older, my mindset and worldview has also grown. I became a vegetarian a year ago. I would like to become a vegan, but cheese is my weakness. I love to cook. I am obsessed with music. Rock, specifically heavy metal, is my favorite genre, but I listen to everything besides country. I love to do my part and try to protect the animals and plants that share the world with us. I will be going to Graduate School soon.

What is your motivational message for students, current or future?

My motivational message is........it is what it is (yes the meme). I know you might not want to do that edgenuity quiz, but if you want to graduate, then....it is what it is. As you get older there will be a lot of things you might not want to do. But sometimes you just gotta do it.
