Sylvia David-West

International Program Manager
Communication Systems (CS) Northeast Regional Director L3Harris Employees of African Descent (LEAD)

Sylvia David-West is a Program Manager for the International Programs business unit within the Communications Systems segment of L3Harris Technologies. Since joining L3Harris in 2006, she has built a dynamic career by holding a wide range of roles across the company, demonstrating that success in engineering and technology does not follow a single path. Beginning as a Manufacturing Technician, she advanced into positions including Test Technician, Electrical Engineer/Scrum Master, Project Engineer, and Continuous Improvement Specialist before assuming her current role in 2024. Her career reflects her belief that you don’t need to begin as an engineer out of college, nor remain in one role to make an impact—you can grow, evolve, and excel in many ways within an organization.

Beyond her professional role, Sylvia serves as the Northeast Regional Director for LEAD (L3Harris Employees of African Descent), an employee resource group dedicated to professional development, cultural awareness, and community engagement. In this capacity, she has helped position LEAD as a change agent within L3Harris, advancing equity and inclusion across the organization.

As a board member of Vertus High School, Sylvia is deeply committed to supporting the school’s mission of ensuring every student receives a high-quality education that prepares them for lifelong success. She is especially passionate about promoting STEM opportunities and has partnered with Vertus to introduce a Robotics program that inspires students to explore engineering and technology.

Raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Sylvia moved to Rochester, NY to pursue her education at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical/mechanical engineering technology. She is also an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers, the WE3(Women who strive for empowering, enhancing and encouraging other women) employee resource group, and volunteers her time with various community organizations.
