Deans

Deans create an effective learning environment by addressing student behavior and discipline with an emphasis on maintaining a positive, supportive academic culture and a safe, well-managed school building.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with school staff in the enforcement and implementation of school rules to promote positive student behavior
  • Maintaining records of any action taken to ensure that the discipline code is administered in a fair and just manner and that an optimum learning environment is maintained
  • Helping to create a strong school culture and sense of community
  • Tracking patterns of misbehavior and coordinating appropriate measures as needed with school staff
  • Responding to acute behavioral issues
  • Communicating and meeting with parents/guardians, and ensuring that consequences for student infractions are fairly and consistently implemented throughout the school
  • Coordinating in-school and out-of-school suspensions, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Participating in re-entry conferences/restorative discipline for suspended students
  • Enforcing the school's uniform policy
  • Assisting in management of morning arrival and afternoon dismissal
  • Supervising students during assemblies, breakfast, lunch, recess, transitions, athletics, and in-school suspension
  • Addressing matters of student attendance and making recommendations to school leaders for resolution of chronic attendance problems
