Maurice Rice was born and raised right here in Rochester NY, growing up he faced many of the challenges our students face today. Poverty, gangs, violence, drugs, and many different challenges that are designed to distract and keep students blinded to what the world can offer them. Maurice Decided to play multiple sports growing up his two favorites are Football and Baseball. While playing those sports Maurice was introduced to coaches that did more than coach the sport, they also coached Maurice in life. Made him realize dreaming and setting goals can keep him on the right track. Maurice went on to college at Buffalo State and earned his bachelor’s degree in public health with and minor in coaching. He began to work with students first starting as a Paraprofessional in the RCSD, then as a Youth Advocate with, Hillside work scholarship, and finally finding a home and purpose here at Vertus High School. Maurice quickly fell in love with the principles and the way Vertus high school does school differently. Being a preceptor for 6 years he was able to do what was done to him as a child and mentor young men and show them a new light from what they encounter daily. Maurice has been a coach for 13 years in football, and now serves as the Head Jv baseball Coach. He believes that our students are our future. The way to save and change the city is to save our students. mrice@vertusschool.org
