Norris Woods

As Vertus’ College and Career Counselor, Assistant Athletic Director and JV Basketball Head Coach, Norris strives every day to demonstrate to the young men of Vertus the life skills, work ethic and character needed for success in school, work, and life. He was born and raised in Rochester but left the area after high school to pursue a degree in exercise science and play college basketball. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University and worked in hospitality management for over a decade while earning his MBA. Even when Norris was managing premiere health and sports clubs, the most rewarding part of his job was mentoring his staff. When he returned to Rochester in 2012, he joined the inaugural class of Preceptors prior to Vertus’ opening, choosing the career change because he wanted to use his talents and experience to make the biggest impact in Rochester he could – through its youth. Norris is a dedicated father and husband, as well as coach and mentor to many, on and off the basketball court.
