This is my 2nd year teaching. Previously, I taught U.S. History at Desert View HS in Tucson, AZ in pursuit of my master's degree. I graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor's in History and my Master's in Education.
What is your philosophy as a teacher?
I believe that it is my responsibility to provide my students with the support, guidance and education so my students can leave as educated, emotionally sound, confident and driven members of our society.
What motivates you to be at Vertus? (what is your “why?")
The emphasis on mentorship and support is what drew me to Vertus, as well as the opportunity to be part of a community and not just a communal school. My opportunity to mentor is very evident at Vertus
Who are you outside of Vertus?
As a new resident of New York, I enjoy wandering around my new surroundings, such as where to eat, shop, entertainment, etc. As a hobby, I love hockey, especially cheering on my St. Louis Blues. I also enjoy archery, reading, camping, country music and watching documentaries.
What is your motivational message for students, current or future?
Never stop striving. The only easy day was yesterday. If it was easy, everyone would do it, the hard is what makes it worth it. Failure is not to be feared, failure is to be embraced as a teachable moment. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the acknowledgement of fear and still moving forward.
