Our Mission

Developing Men of Character

At Vertus Charter High School we demonstrate our mission daily through our four pillars. We strive to provide the same opportunities that middle-income, suburban families expect and that all young men deserve:

Key Design Elements

Strong Relationships

Brotherhood is the foundation. Strong relationships shape strong men. Every young man is known, challenged, and supported by a preceptor who serves as mentor, role model, and guide. Our preceptors walk side by side with students. Teaching them how to lead with integrity, take responsibility for their actions, and treat others with respect.

By building trust with students and forming real partnerships with families, we create a consistent support system that pushes young men to grow academically, socially, and personally. These bonds do more than help students succeed in school. They forge character, resilience, and leadership that last far beyond graduation.

Personalized Year-Round Academics

Vertus operates with a mission mindset: every warrior trains year-round. Our personalized academic model blends technology, small teacher-led classes, and a year-round schedule to meet each student where he is and move him forward with purpose.

This approach helps young men close learning gaps, sharpen essential skills, and stay locked in on earning a New York State Regents diploma. Beyond core classes, students engage in hands-on electives like Music Production, Barbering, and E-Sports/Gaming—programs that connect learning to real-world interests while building discipline, creativity, and teamwork. Along with clubs and athletics, Vertus keeps young men motivated, focused, and growing year-round.

Character Education

The character is trained daily. Every student participates in intentional character development seminars where our Character Curriculum comes to life. Through circle protocol, real conversations, and team-based activities, young men strengthen the core Vertus virtues: Courage, Leadership, and Responsibility.

Students set personal goals and commit to developing the character traits they need to succeed, in school and in life. This daily focus builds self-awareness, accountability, and confidence, ensuring our young men don’t just succeed academically, but stand firm as men of principle.

Career Preperation

Every warrior prepares for life after the gates. At Vertus, students choose the path that fits their goals: college, technical training, military service, or entering the workforce, and we equip them to be ready.

Through partnerships with Monroe Community College and REOC, students can earn college credits at no cost while still in high school. Students participate in college visits, meet admissions representatives, and attend our annual Job Fair, where employers, trade organizations, and military recruiters offer real opportunities. With support from our counseling team, students prepare résumés, practice interviews, and apply for positions, many leaving with real next steps already in motion.

Our Commitment

We are committed to developing men of character who are prepared to lead with courage, integrity, and responsibility. Our unique blend of rigorous academics, strong mentorship, and a culture rooted in brotherhood ensures that every young man is supported on his journey to success. We believe that education is more than just preparing for exams. It’s about building resilience, confidence, and a sense of purpose. Through personalized instruction, life skills training, and the Warrior House system, we empower our students to grow not only as scholars but as leaders in their families and communities. At Vertus, every young man is challenged, supported, and celebrated as he discovers his path to greatness.

Warrior House System

In 2024, Vertus introduced the Warrior House System, a dynamic way to build character, strengthen relationships, and foster school spirit. Every student and staff member belongs to one of two houses—the Samurai, representing honor, courage, discipline, and loyalty; or the Spartan, embodying excellence, resilience, and community spirit. With their own colors, symbols, and traditions, the houses create a culture of pride and belonging that unites all Warriors.
